On the banks of the
River Swale on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, a
much loved area of outstanding natural beauty, Swaledale Pork was set up in
2002 by two brothers, Paul and Derek, who had been brought up in generations
of rural pig farming.
With more
than 30 years of commercial pig farming under his belt, Paul
wanted to practise a less intensive and more traditional method of farming.

Increasingly
interested in the rare breeds of pig that were dramatically dwindling in
numbers, such as the Gloucestershire Old Spot and British Lop, Paul and
Derek decided to set up Swaledale Pork and focus on farming rare breed pigs
in an outdoor and entirely natural environment.
The resulting pork is far superior to the standard mass produced product, in terms of
flavour and tenderness.
